n BJ0RN WIINBLAD The Danish draftsman Bjorn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen in 1919 and received his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts of that city. With his 40th birthday hardly behind him his name already became known to the public, when, in 1945 he showed on the occasion of his first exhi bition in Copenhagen besides pieces of graphic art, book-illustrations and portraits a selection of his ceramics which aroused a vielgestaltigen und anmufigen Arbeiten mit der heiteren Unbeschwertheit und spiele- risch anmutenden Eleganz ihrer Formenwelt leicht auf den Gedanken kommen, dab wir es hier mit einem begabten Künstler zu tun hatten, dem alles, was er anfabt, leicht von der Hand gehe und wie ein schönes Götter- geschenk zufalle. Doch sollte uns diese er- staunliche Leichtigkeit seiner Produktion nicht darüber hinwegtauschen, dab Bjorn Wiinblad seine Erfolge keineswegs etwa einer zufalligen günstigen Konjunktur ver dankt, sondern dab sie tatsachlich nur die verdienten Ergebnisse eines ernsthaft arbei- tenden, höchst phantasiebegabten und von immer neuen künstlerischen Impulsen be- wegten jungen Künstlers sind. Since that time he has also exhibited his work in nearly all of Scandinavia, in France, in America and in Germany where he was equally successful and where the acquisition of his works through State Museums and private collec tors increased and added to his widening fame as an artist. Bjorn Wiinblad is as pro ductive an artist as he is imaginative and versatile and the scope of his work com prises a variety of artistic fields. As a drafts man he has designed an abundance of com mercial and illustrative works and a great number of books; also wall-paper and fabrics were designed by his hand and as a
