gen und revolutionsahnlichem Aufruhr. Treu-
mann ware nicht der wahre Künstler, der er
ist, wenn er sein Talent und sein handwerk-
liches Können nicht in den Dienst dieser öf-
fentlichen Kundgebungen steilte. Viele Pla-
kate, die zu Demonstrationen und Studenten-
versammlungen aufriefen, wurden von ihm
entworfen und gedruckt. Nachdem er in einer
Atmosphare aufgewachsen war, die durch die
Freundschaft von Brusse und Sandberg zu
seinen Eltern mitgepragt wurde, ist es nicht
überraschend, daB das typografische Element
eine groBe Rolle in Treumanns Entwürfen
spielt. Weit seltener entdeckt man jedoch bei
ihm Einflüsse seines Vaters, des berühmten
hollandischen Designers Otto Treumann. Es
scheint ganz so, als ware Réné Treumann
dabei, seinen eigenen Weg zu gehen und zu
einem bedeutenden Vertreter der neuen Ge
neration von Designern in Holland zu werden.

Bom in 1942, while his parents were in
hiding, Réné Treumann was educated in
Amsterdam and visited not only the Gerrit
Rietveld Akademie but also the Amsterdam
School of Graphic Techniques. After his train
ing Treumann worked for some small printing
houses in Amsterdam and started experiment
ing with forms in typographic material in the
experimental typeshop «typotent.» This small
workshop was founded to enable the layman
and professional alike to try desired designs
until they were fit to be printed on one of
the presses of «typotent.» A non-profit foun
dation and open to everyone who pays ten
guilders a year, «typotent» serves many,
most of whom come around Christmas, to
print their own greetings. It might have been
this seasonal wave of over-interest which
inspired Réné Treumann to develop his
ideas for the printing of material to be used
on festive occasions. Type-high material,
a small printing press, colored paper and the
craftsmanship of Treumann make the most
fascinating material for marriage, parties,
birthday and other happy occasions. But our
era is shaking under demonstrations, meet
ings and semi-revolutions. Treumann would
not be a true artist if he did not support these
manifestations through his talent and crafts
manship. Many posters for demonstrations
and student meetings were designed and
printed by him. Educated in an atmosphere
influenced by the friendship between Brusse,
Sandberg and his parents it is not surprising
that the use of typographic material predom
inates in the designs of Treumann. There
are, however, not many influences detectable
of his father the famous Dutch designer Otto
