As is now generally known, Duncan Grant was commissioned to decorate the
lounge of the "Queen Mary." Almost at the last moment the designs were
rejected, on the judgment, we understand, of the chairman of the company.
Many people will believe that the reputation of this country for artistic
appreciation was damaged by this decision. For the first time some of the
sketches are now reproduced. At the head is the pelmet and below it the design
for the hangings. At left is the carpet centre. The rejected decorative panels
will probably be exhibited in the spring.
